Thank you for volunteering to coach. It is truly a rewarding experience and we greatly appreciate the time and energy you are giving our organization to help us provide a safe, fun and enjoyable activity for the children in Greenville area.
Listed below are obligations that should be met by yourself or a member of your coaching staff while coaching for Greenville Rocket Football. Please remember that by volunteering for this position, you represent the GRFL Board and the Greenville community and as such, we count on you set a good example for you parent and players to follow.
All Coaches and Team volunteers must pass a background check.
After the coaching staffs have been announced, the Head Coach will be required to submit the to the GRFL Board in writing which coach will be in charge of equipment issues; which coach or volunteer will be in charge of volunteers; and what coaching assignments are.
K-6th grade: Play all children as equally as possible. All players should have or share some type of starting position assignment.
Practice smart. Take breaks as weather dictates. Practice is cancelled when lightning strikes are noted in the area (MHSAA).
Follow the rules for the first conditioning prtactices.
Study the League rule book. Know your responsibilities and the other team’s responsibilities.
ONLY Coaches are allowed in the practice area. If a parent wants to become more involved or wants to assist, contact the President, League Director or Tackle, Cheer, or flag Director for approval.
Only league approved coaches are allowed on the field during games.
One team coach should be present for all participant issues for both home and away games.
Do not let a player participate with missing/broken or non-approved equipment.
Do not let a child participate in practice in game issued pants or jerseys or uniforms.
A team volunteer or coach will be your liaison for parents. This person will be responsible for making sure any information from GRFL is forwarded to your parents and will record mandatory volunteer times at games.
Distribute game schedules to parents.
Practice in designated areas on designated days. Practices are allowed Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. 7th grade are allowed four practices a week (games count as a practice); 8th grade are allowed Monday-Friday (coach's choice on days and amount).
Do not send a child alone to get equipment reviewed/repaired. Have a coach accompany them.
Do not leave a child unattended after practice. Have a coach wait until transportation arrives.
Police practice and game areas for equipment/trash/clothes and keep bench and practice areas picked up.
Have numbered/name rosters available for League Directors for all away games.
Have a coach or team volunteer submit and collect/distribute any fundraising items or league handouts.
Do not collect equipment at the season end. Have parents or guardians return equipment.
Banquet and end of year game is mandatory. A team may not forfeit. If you cannot coach, assign another coach to handle the game duties.
Team activities beyond those associated with GRFL (outside team scrimmages, fundraising, etc…) must be approved by the GRFL Board.
Felony convictions of any kind
Multiple misdemeanor convictions
Single misdemeanor conviction occurring within 4 years of application
-Allowable with condition:
Misdemeanor conviction of DUI prior to 4-10 years of application must sign a pledge not to transport any GRFL participants.
Misdemeanor conviction of Fraud 4-10 years of application must not handle or collect funds from any GRFL participants.
ALL COACHES WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK
Equipment issued at the start of Practices/Training:
Footballs and scrimmage vests
First aid kits and coaches box
Cones and disc markers
You will be responsible for handing out jerseys and making a team roster for home and away games
Coaches, please make sure you have taken the concussion awareness program as offered by the CDC. This is a requirement and must be provided to your director by your first practice session. Also, you must confirm that you have reviewed the child abuse recognition and reporting report listed in our documents page.
